Shortcuts and automation via the Shortcuts app are very important to the overall iOS experience. It helps us create routines, and we can get things done in a more personalized, organized way. You set up a Shortcut to trigger, and it’ll perform an action that you set. You can use it to get a reminder when you receive emails, set a custom tune when your battery hits a certain percentage, customize your home screen using bookmarks that change the icons, and more. There is an automation that immediately turns off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, turns off Mobile Data and hotspots and triggers AirPlane Mode- all at once when you tap the Shortcut. There’s an option to set a personal Low Power Mode, which completely drops the brightness, suspends background apps, and more. You can also choose to enable it at a particular percentage automatically. Here is a guide on how to fix if your iPhone’s shortcuts and automation are not working on iOS 17.

1: Create the Shortcuts again
Shortcuts that you created with previous iOS versions may not work with iOS 16 and iOS 17. To fix this malfunction:
- Open the Shortcuts app on your phone.
- At the top right corner, select all the shortcuts that you have issues with. Then, tap on delete.
- Now, tap the Plus icon and add the action again.
- Use the new Shortcut and check if it solves the issue.
If your automation isn’t working:
- Open the Shortcuts app.
- In the lower bottom tab, look for automation.
- Find the automation that isn’t working and tap on Enable this Automation.
- Turn off this toggle and re-enable it.
- Swiping left will reveal a delete button for the automation. Delete it and create the automation again if it still doesn’t work.
2: Restart your phone
- Restarting is one of the most basic methods to fix system-level issues and cache issues. It forces the entire OS to reboot from scratch, and all the apps are booted off from RAM, and it also clears the cache. If there’s a software malfunction with the Shortcuts or Automation, restart might fix it. Hold down the power button and the volume up button to get started.
- Slide to power off your phone.
- Wait a few seconds until the screen goes completely blank.
- Start your phone again by pressing the power button for a few seconds.
- Alternatively, you can use Assistive Touch or even use the Shut Down option in the Settings app under the General menu.
