Google Camera mod for the Poco X6

Do you want to install the Google Camera Mod on the Poco X6? The Poco X6 is a value offering with the best display at that price and a fairly decent chipset. The phone has very good pricing, and it’s one of the best-value models this year. However, it is behind severely in terms of cameras. To get a 1.5K display and the 7s Gen 2 SOC at an affordable price point, they had to compromise on the camera hardware.

The Poco X6 uses the Omnivision OV64B sensor. It’s a 64MP 1/2″ sensor, and it’s not a very large sensor, and this creates a lot of struggle with details, noise, and low-light imagery since the first-party processing from the stock camera app is not very strong. Poco isn’t known for great photography or excellent image processing. As a result, the camera results are mediocre at best, and the cameras are a major con of this phone.

The Poco X6 is a rebrand of the Redmi Note 13 Pro. They share a similar chassis, the same chipset, and the same chipset. However, the main sensor is completely different. The Redmi Note 13 Pro has a flagship 200MP 1/1.4″ HP3 main sensor.

This is drastically more expensive than the sensor on the Poco. This sensor can do lossless crops up to 2X, and has usable zoom until 4X if you crop from the main sensor. 1/1.4″ is extremely large for a sensor at this price since most top out at 1/1.56″, like the IMX890. The Redmi Note 13 Pro is also a considerably more expensive option. To release an online option, Poco cut costs by replacing the expensive main sensor with a cheaper OV64B sensor.

What does GCam Mod do?

This comes at an obvious compromise in imagery. To fix this, we have several GCam mods that take full advantage of the hardware and produce excellent results regardless of the lighting condition. It’ll take much better photos than the stock processing, and it’s porting over Google’s excellent processing algorithm to the Poco X6.

It brings the HDR+ Enhanced technology for bright and evenly exposed shadows, excellent highlight control, proper texture detail, and faster capture times. It also enhances the low-light performance of the camera system. The processing brings out more details. It’s a proprietary technology called Night Sight, which enhances textures at night. Alongside Night Sight, you also get Google’s Portrait Mode, Motion Photos, Panorama, Lens Blur, and other features.

Thanks to the developers Arnova8G2, BSG, and Urnyx05, we can get all these GCam features on the Poco X6 easily.

How to install Google Camera Mod

It’s not a very different installation process to traditionally sideloading a third-party APK on your phone. It’s fairly straightforward and doesn’t require special device permissions. You don’t have to root your device for this to work.

  1. Download a GCam APK of your choice from the list.
  2. Enable installation of apps from Unknown Sources.
  3. Tap on the APK. This will launch the package installer. Tap on the install button.
  4. Find the app icon, and use the Google Camera on the Poco X6.

If it doesn’t work on your device, then Camera 2 API is disabled, and you have to use build.prop and enable Camera 2 API.

Enter this in build.prop: Persist.vender.camera.HAL3.enable=1
