Android 14 DP Update for Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro

Soon after the recent Google I/O event, Google released the second beta of Android 14 which offered more new upcoming features and changes. On the other hand, Xiaomi has recently announced that Xiaomi 13 Pro, Xiaomi 13, and Xiaomi 12T are eligible for the Android 14 Developer Preview Program. So if you own a Xiaomi 13 or 13 Pro and are wondering how to install the DP update on your device then you are at the right place. In this article, we will guide you on downloading and installing the Android 14 DP update on your Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro devices.

Preparing for the Android 14 DP Update

Before you proceed with the Android 14 Developer Preview Program, follow the few steps below to ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience:

1. Backup Your Data: Before updating to the Android 14 DP, make sure to back up all your essential data as the installation process may erase your device’s data.
2. Keep your Device Charged: Make sure your device has at least 50% charge.
3. Enough Storage Space: Make sure your device has enough storage space to install the update. We recommend at least 15GB free.

   You can either visit the Xiaomi website or use the links given below to download the Android 14 DP build specifically designed for Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro.

Method 1: Local Update

1. Copy the downloaded Android 14 update file (that you downloaded in the above section) into the “downloaded_rom” folder in the internal storage of your Xiaomi device. If there is no such folder, create one and copy the file into it. Make sure the folder is in the root directory of your phone.
2. Launch the Settings app on your Xiaomi device.
3. Tap About phone.
4. Tap on System update.
5. Tap on the MIUI logo 5-7 times till a text appears at the bottom of the screen.
6. Then, tap the three dots icon in the top-right corner.
7. Finally, select Choose update package and select the file that you copied in Step 1.
8. Wait while the firmware is being extracted and installed on your device. This may require some time, so please be patient.
9. After the installation is finished, restart your Xiaomi 13/13 Pro.
10. Future beta updates will be delivered through over-the-air (OTA) updates as they become available.
    

    Method 2: Fastboot Update

    For the Fastboot Update method, follow these steps:

    1. Download the MIUI ROM Flashing Tool and install it on your Windows PC or laptop.
    2. Turn off your Xiaomi 13 or 13 pro device and enter Fastboot mode by pressing the Volume Down key and the Power button simultaneously.
    3. Connect your phone to the computer using a USB-C cable.
    4. Decompress the downloaded MIUI ROM file and open the file folder.
    5. Copy the path of the ROM file folder on your computer.
    6. Open the MIUI ROM flashing tool (MiFlash.exe) and paste the copied ROM file folder path into the address bar.
    7. Click on the “refresh” button to refresh, and the MIUI ROM flashing tool should automatically recognize your Xiaomi phone.
    8. Click on the “flash” button to flash the ROM file to your device.
    9. Wait for the progress bar inside MiFlash to turn fully green, indicating that the ROM has been successfully installed on your device.
    10. Your Xiaomi device should now automatically boot into the new Android 14 version.

Note: The Fastboot Update method will erase all user data on your Xiaomi device. So, it is important to back up your data before proceeding with this method.

Opt-Out of the Developer Preview Program

If you decide to opt out of the Android 14 Developer Preview Program

1. Turn off your Xiaomi device.
2. Press the Volume-down button and the Power button at the same time for 4-5 seconds to enter Fastboot mode.
3. Once in Fastboot mode, you can choose to restore your device to the factory settings.
