Setting Up Contact Posters in iOS 17

To create a Contact Poster, begin by selecting an individual contact. Whether you’re using the Phone app or the Contacts app, choose a contact, preferably one who frequently calls you so that you can see your Contact Poster in action.

1. If you’re using the Phone app: Go to the Contacts tab, select the contact, and tap Edit at the top-right corner. If there’s already a photo or Memoji assigned to them, select “Edit” once more. Otherwise, opt for “Add Photo”.Now, you’ll find yourself on the screen where you can start creating your Contact Poster. The available options may differ based on your specific circumstances.

2. If you already have a photo for the contact: You’ll see buttons for customization or creating something new. If you choose to Customize, it will use your existing photo as a starting point.

3. If you need to create a new Contact Poster: You can use your camera to capture a new photo, select one from your photo library, opt for an avatar or character (Memoji), or display the person’s initials on the poster (Monogram).

Customizing Memoji or Monogram Contact Posters

Here’s where the fun begins. If you opt for a Memoji Contact Poster, you can select a pose, background color, and Depth Effect (which determines whether the text appears above or below your Memoji). It’s reminiscent of creating a portrait watch face on your Apple Watch.

For Monograms, you can choose the letters to display, the background color, and customize the font. You have multiple font styles, a slider to adjust font thickness, and a color palette for further personalization.

Note: As of now, iOS 17 is in beta, so you can only use Contact Posters if you’ve installed the iOS 17 beta on your iPhone.

Customizing Photo Contact Posters

Selecting a photo for your Contact Poster unlocks numerous design options. Much like customizing your iOS Lock Screen, you can move and resize the photo to your liking on the screen. The Depth Effect works here too, and you can toggle it on or off.

What’s more, you can swipe right or left to choose from a range of poster styles. The number of options depends on whether your iPhone can identify a subject to work with. The list of styles includes Natural, Gradient Backdrop, Seamless Background, Seamless Background Mono, Overprint, Studio, Black & White, Color Backdrop, Duotone, and Color Wash.

These styles affect your photo’s appearance in various ways, and most of them offer additional color options. Experiment with them to see how they transform your photo.

Once you’ve customized your Contact Poster to your satisfaction, tap Done to save your creation.
