Auto Call Recording On Samsung

Samsung’s OneUI is the most feature-packed flavour of android. Samsung has given its users the most comprehensive list of features anyone would ever want. One of those features is call recording. By default, Google’s version of the call recording is half baked as it notifies the other person when the call is being recorded. On the other hand, there is Auto Call Recording on Samsung Phones. Once set up, will automatically record calls.

Google’s Policy Change on Call Recording

Google recently made some changes to its Play Store Policy that come into effect starting May 11. One of those changes aims to kill call recording apps on Android. Now the users will have to stick to the default call recorder that comes bundled with the device. Thus giving Samsung, another advantage over its competitors. As it is one of the few companies not using Google Dialer.

Google has silently been moving away from APIs that enable call recording over several Android versions. Google is doing it in the name of privacy and security as call recording laws are so varied across different countries. In Android 10, Google blocked call recording by default. So to circumvent the restriction, Play Store apps started using the Accessibility API to record calls. This will no longer be possible after Google implements the new changes next month.

The native call recording functionality that comes pre-bundled will not be affected. Google says “If the app is the default dialer on the phone and also pre-loaded, accessibility capability is not required to get access to the incoming audio stream, and hence, will not be in violation”
