Apple announced the tvOS Developer Beta 3 recently for developers to test. Since this is a developer beta, it’s bound to have bugs and is not recommended for average users. The installation of the tvOS 15.5 Developer beta 3 is not easy. This beta is for testing and software development purposes only. For regular use, wait until Apple announces Public Beta.

  2. Spatial Audio for select movies and shows.
  3. SharePlay and Shared with You make your entertainment viewing experience more social.
  4. Setting HomePod mini as your default Apple TV speaker.
  5. Siri commands to play movies and shows on-demand through the HomePod mini.
  6. The ability to view multiple HomeKit cameras at once in a grid view.
  7. The ability to Authorise Purchases using Face ID or Touch ID on your iPhone or iPad.

Install tvOS 15.5 Beta Developer Beta 3

Prerequisites

  1. tvOS 15.5 is compatible with the latest Apple TV 4K (2021), the first-gen Apple TV 4K (2017), and the Apple TV 4th gen (2015).
  2. You’ll need a MacApple Configurator, and the latest version of Xcode.

Note: You cannot back up your Apple TV. You have two options to update tvOS:

  • Over The Air, which will update the operating system only and leave your TV configuration and apps unaffected.
  • Via USB-C (only for Apple TV 4th generation), which restores your device to its factory settings.

 

How to Install tvOS 15.5 Developer Beta 3 on Apple TV

This process will only update the system and all your configurations should remain unaffected.

  1.  Go to developer.apple.com on your Mac.
  2. Click Discover and select tvOS.
  3. Login with your Username and Password.
  4. Scroll down and click the download button on the right of the tvOS 15.5 beta 3 configuration profile. Save it to your Desktop.
  5. Install the Apple Configurator App from the App store.
  6. Connect the Apple TV 4th generation or 4K to AC power and the same wireless network as your Mac.
  7. Open Xcode on Mac.
  8. In the Menu, click Window and select Devices and Simulators.
  9. Go to Settings on Apple TV.
  10. Select Remote and Devices.
  11. Select Remote App and Devices.
  12. In Xcode, select your Apple TV once it appears under Discovered in the left column.
  13. To pair Xcode with your Apple TV, enter the code that appears on your TV.
  14. Once paired, open Apple Configurator on your Mac. Do note, that if it is your first time setting up Apple TV, click Prepare and follow on-screen instructions.
  15. If you have already set up Apple TV and now adding profiles, you need to click Add -> Profiles.
  16. Alternatively, you can drag and drop the tvOS 15.5 Configurations Profile from your Desktop to the Apple TV icon in Apple Configurator. This will configure Apple TV for tvOS 15.5.

Now the Apple TV will detect the new tvOS and download and install it just like any other update.

 

Install the tvOS beta restore Image over USB-C (Apple TV 4th gen only)

If you have the Apple TV 4th gen, then you can install tvOS 15.5 Beta 3 using another method.

Note: This process will restore your Apple TV to Factory Settings

  1. Go to the Developer’s Download page on Mac.
  2. Download the tvOS beta software restore image for the Apple TV 4th Gen.
  3. Start Finder and connect your Apple TV with a USB-C cable.
  4. Select your Apple TV when it appears in the Finder.
  5. Press and hold the Options key and click the Restore Apple TV button in the Summary Panel.
  6. Select the tvOS beta software restore the image you downloaded and click Open to start Installation.
  7. Once the beta is installed, your device will Reboot and need a network connection for activation.

 

Conclusion

The new tvOS 15.5 beta boasts some impressive features. But its installation is hard and is not recommended for average users. Plus there are bound to be bugs and glitched throughout the UI.
