How to Get Custom Themes for any Samsung Galaxy Smartphone Using Hex Installer
The stock themes app on Samsung phones leaves a lot to be desired with its expensive theme packs and limited choices. This makes customization on these phones rather limiting with the pre-loaded themes. Hex Installer tries to make the customization on your galaxy phones easier and more expansive. Phones as old as the Galaxy S8 running One UI can take advantage of this app with no root or ADB commands. This allows everyone to easily customize your Galaxy phone even if you’re not technically inclined. So, without any further delay below is the tutorial on how to install custom themes on a Galaxy device using the Hex Installer app.
Requirement for installing custom Themes On Galaxy Devices using Hex Installer
Samsung Galaxy Device which is running Android 9 (One UI 1.0) or higher and that it supports theming and customization of Hex installer.
Step 1 – How to Install Hex Installer on Galaxy Devices

Step 2 – Apply the Default Theme
Hex Installer modifies the themes already available in the Galaxy Theme store. Before using the app you have to first apply the default theme. Follow the instructions given below.
Open Settings > select “Themes” > Open hamburger menu on upper-left corner > Choose “My stuff”
Check if there is a white checkmark on “Default.” If not, select it to choose “Apply.”
Step 3 – Customize Your Theme
Open the app and provide the required permissions. Once you are on the main page you can start customizing the themes. While customizing, a live look of your customizations will be provided on the top part of the page.
- UI Mode: The themes are based on plugins. You can find ones based on stock Android and TouchWiz by default. Click on “Find more plugins on Google Play” to get new plugins from the Play Store. (some are paid)
- Colouring: Adjusts colours of various UI parts, like Quick Settings, text, and apps.
- Apps: Select apps you want to apply the theme to. By default, all supported apps are selected.
- Custom Fonts: Change the style of the text. This feature doesn’t work on Android 10 or higher.
- Preferences: Miscellaneous changes such as changing status bar symbols, adjusting the transparency of Quick Settings icons, and more.
Step 4 – Building Your Theme
After customizing to your heart’s content, click on “Build and Install”. this will redirect you to the Galaxy Themes app. Once in the themes app, you will be asked to download the High Contrast Theme: Sky Black. Download it but do not select apply.
Instead, go back to the Hex Installer app and select “Build and install” again. Now the app will begin to apply modifications to the theme. A series of popups asking you to install or uninstall certain aspects if the themes will appear. Select “Yes” for each one, and the Galaxy Themes main page will appear again. Reboot your device at this point to fix the issue where the status bar icon colours are misapplied.
Step 5 – Applying Your custom theme on your Galaxy with Hex Installer app
Once your device reboots, go back to Galaxy Themes and select High Contrast Theme II and click on “Apply.” Once the loading is complete, your new theme will be applied.
After the first time, you no longer need to switch to the Default theme before applying a new one. Instead, you only need to switch to Default after creating a new theme, before switching back to High Contrast Theme II to apply your changes. Also, there’s no need to reboot your device before applying future themes.
