Check Internet Connection

One of the easiest fixes to this problem would be to check your internet connection. A slow or inconsistent network connection can often lead you to believe there’re problems with the app.

Check for Updates

If the issue is widespread then there is a big chance Instagram might have already fixed the issue with their latest update. Hence, it’s always good to enable automatic app updates on your phone. Alternatively, you can also update Instagram manually by heading to Play Store or App Store.

Check if Instagram is Down

Instagram servers are down frequently and this could be the reason why Videos are not playing on your Instagram. To check if Instagram is down, go to Downdetector. If Instagram servers are facing an outage, you’ll need to wait till the issue is resolved.

Disable Battery Saver

Battery saver on phones restricts the ability of an app to function in the background to preserve the battery. But this could in turn affect the overall functionality of an app and it may not behave normally. Therefore, it is recommended to disable the battery saver and try running Instagram after it.

Disable Data Saver

Another reason why your Instagram isn’t behaving normally could be that the Data saver is enabled. As Instagram may appear slow to load content or fail to do so entirely if you’ve enabled the data saver option in the app. To disable Data Saver Mode in Instagram:

  1. Open Instagram on your Android or iPhone. Tap on the profile icon in the bottom right corner.
  2. Tap on the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top right corner and select Settings from the list.
  3. Go to Account and tap on Cellular data use.
  4. Toggle off the switch next to Data Saver.

Aside from this, you’ll also need to ensure that you haven’t enabled a data saver from the system settings.

To turn off the data saver on Android, open Settings and go to Network and Internet. Then turn off the Data Saver mode.

Launch the Settings app and select Wi-Fi to disable Low Data Mode on Wi-Fi. Tap the info icon next to your Wi-Fi network and turn off Low Data Mode.

Clear App Cache

If you have been using Instagram for some time, the app may have collected a significant amount of cache data. If that data has become corrupted, it can prevent Instagram from working as expected. In that case, you can try clearing the app cache to see if that works.

  1. Long press on the Instagram app icon and tap on the info icon from the menu that appears.
  2. Go to Storage & cache and tap on the Clear cache option.
