How to Change the Boot Animation on Your Steam Deck

Before we begin, ensure that you have a stable internet connection and a keyboard at hand. You’ll need an internet connection to download and change the boot animation of the steam deck. You will also need to have a keyboard to enter some commands.

Install custom boot animation with Desktop mode

1. Switch to Desktop Mode on your Steam Deck.
2. Visit steamdeckrepo.com and choose your preferred boot animation.
3. Download the .webm file.
4. Open the Dolphin app and enable the “Show hidden files” option.
5. Go to your home directory (/home/deck).
6. Navigate to .steam/root/config and create a “uioverrides” folder and enter it.
7. Name the folder “movies.”
8. Copy the downloaded .webm file and paste it into the “movies” folder, naming it “deck_startup.webm.”
9. Restart your Steam Deck, and the new boot animation should be applied.

1. Switch to Desktop Mode and download the preferred boot animation.
2. Open the Dolphin app and enable the “Show hidden files” option.
3. Go to your home directory (/home/deck).
